How To Create A Wubbzy Song...Step 3: Mixing & Production
Introducing...Mr. Scott Greiner. Scott is a musician, composer, engineer and producer. It is so great to have one's songs mixed by Scott because....THEY'LL SOUND GOOD! Scott makes it plain to hear that mixing is an art unto itself and he is indeed fantastic at it.
He's an invaluable partner throughout the creation of the songs because as I'm composing I can ask him for suggestions or feedback before sending to Bob. He almost always has really fresh ideas and continually challenges me to try something new or something that I hadn't previously thought of.
Scott receives my finished project and loads everything up onto his ProTools system. I'll give him some notes as to how I want things to sound or I'll ask his opinion of a certain vocal or instrumental part as he's mixing but for the most part, he does a first mix and then sends it to me for my notes.Immediately, I melt with joy as the song sounds so enhanced, so spacious, so smooth....so GOOD! After this initial buzz, I get down to business and start complaining to him! "This is too high!", "This is too low!", "Turn it up!", "Turn it down", "No, wait! Turn it up again!", "Not enough reverb!" "Not enough bass!", "Fix the way I sing that one word!", "Make my voice sound like a robot singing in a cocktail lounge!" etc.
Guess what? He makes all the changes for me! Sometimes our fists come up or we'll arm wrestle on the mixing console if we can't agree on something...but for the most part we havea fine time getting the song to where we think it should be.
Being a highly proficient composer, Scott will often compose instrumental parts for the songs or add really superb sound effects during the mixing. This collaboration is the most fun for me and usually leads to some lovely results.
We then send our first mix to Bob for his notes and keep re-mixing until we get his approval and then the final mix is delivered to the post production studio to link the song to the picture when the final animation is ready.
